About
I'm Muhammed Demirbaş, a software engineer in Ankara, Türkiye. Married, two kids, one drone.
Work
Fifteen years of building software: a healthcare startup where we practically lived in hospitals, an R&D company doing network security, a defense company, and a global company through acquisitions, office closures and layoffs. Most of it on the JVM — Java, Kotlin, Spring — designing distributed systems and keeping them running.
In 2024 I moved to big data: first the internals of Apache Spark, then Apache Iceberg. Today I work on the Spark + Iceberg storage side at Huawei Cloud.
I also take on independent work through my own company — Spark, Iceberg, data platforms, and the JVM around them. If that could be useful to you, write to mmdemirbas@gmail.com.
Sky
In 2025 I bought a DJI Mini 5 Pro and crashed it three times in the first two months. Dronosfer is the Turkish-language YouTube channel that grew out of that: flying safely, camera settings, range tests, the Turkish rules, and the places around Ankara seen from above.
Family
Ailece Ankara is our family's guide to Ankara with kids — cafés, parks, day trips and events — told from our own outings since 2019, on the web and on Instagram.
Writing
Since 2023 I have kept a blog here: clean code, a career change into big data, tools I build. The posts are in English; Turkish versions are machine translated unless marked otherwise.
